[ he huffs a chuckle against her lips and tries to put aside anything else save for the amusement. It's a glimpse to the life they've led without him and it's bittersweet, to see himself still present in it, what would cap say, indeed. He will admit to her, somewhere in her future, that serving is just not the same as it used to be, sometimes, the best we can do is to start over, she'd say and he will abide those words, become more of an avenger, less a soldier.

They carry each other in their hearts, it would seem. Inspire and affect.

He does so miss those days. ]

Well he knew me better than most and whatever this was, he was right, you know.

[ a beat ]

Never thought I'd think of him while kissing you.

[ the little oddities of this planet. ]

[ bummer. ]

[ -- frankly, peggy never thought she'd be thinking of dugan while she was kissing anyone. but it's easier to think about old friends than new flames. safer, too.

she left her arm looped around his neck. ] And the humble idyllic goat path strewn with rose petals can be axed, too.

[ now that might get a faux groan of disappointment ]

Do you know how hard it is to find the equivalent of roses on this planet?

[ because believe it or not, Steve Rogers and Hank McCoy sure do. He really hopes Raven ended up liking the flowers. ]

You sure you don't want to rethink that one?

[ a shake of her head, and a wisp of laughter under her breath. ]

Contrary to popular believe, Steve, I'm a person of terribly simple tastes. Good whiskey, good food, and good company. I don't need the extras.

Yes ma'am. No extras.

[ too bad he was never an excellent liar. he at least manages to push away the thought of the many potted flowers lying about his room on the starstruck. Maybe he'll give Hank a few more of those. ]

[ mind you, peggy wouldn't turn her nose up at any extras. truth is -- she'd probably feel touched. he could be so endearing with the length at which he tried. the lengths for which he aimed. but a depression-era childhood with a follow-up career during war-time rationing has made her...austere, at times. she could not own her excesses aloud. ]

Oh, for Heaven's sake. [ her smile is sweet, but exasperated. ] Tomorrow evening? Hell or high water?

[ he doesn't bite back a chuckle because really, Peggy's long-suffering smile is something that he has to define as adorable and he has a feeling he might be on the receiving end of that smile at least a couple of times more in the future.

he doesn't mind. ]

[ he makes a bit of a face. honestly, sometime's Peggy's control of the English language is simply astonishing ]

[ she speaks like a ghost; a memory; a recollection: ] Don't you dare be late.

[ the words are sharp, inhaled, and they hurt. ]
